A joint Egyptian-Italian archaeological mission working in the city of Aswan (southern Egypt) has discovered a group of family tombs dating back to the Late Antiquity and the Greco-Roman period, containing mummies, near the Aga Khan Mausoleum west of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Ayman Ashmawy, Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that “the number of discovered tombs is 33, all from the Late Antiquity and the Greco-Roman periods.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ashmawy noted that “studies conducted on the remains of the mummies inside these tombs indicate that about 30 to 40 percent of those buried there died in their youth or from infancy to adulthood.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
