{"id":106572,"date":"2024-06-16T14:56:08","date_gmt":"2024-06-16T11:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/?p=106572"},"modified":"2024-06-16T14:56:13","modified_gmt":"2024-06-16T11:56:13","slug":"reopening-of-enforced-disappearance-case-of-malaysian-shia-activist-with-accusations-against-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/news\/106572-reopening-of-enforced-disappearance-case-of-malaysian-shia-activist-with-accusations-against-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Reopening of enforced disappearance case of Malaysian Shia activist, with accusations against government"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In Malaysia, the controversy surrounding the enforced disappearance of Shia activist Amri Che Mat, who went missing in 2016, has resurfaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No evidence has been found leading to his whereabouts, however; activists and media outlets, followed by Shia Waves Agency, have reported that the enforced disappearance was orchestrated by the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amri\u2019s wife, Norhayati Ariffin, has filed a new lawsuit against the police, the government, and several individuals accused of being involved in her husband&#8217;s disappearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She stated that &#8220;the investigations conducted by the authorities were inadequate and that there was a deliberate cover-up of the case.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to media reports, &#8220;among the accused are former Interior Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former Inspectors General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar and Fuzi Harun.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ariffin claimed that &#8220;the authorities violated the law and their duties to ensure the safety of citizens, committing clear violations and exploiting their government positions to neglect procedures and cover up the case.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"380\" height=\"196\" src=\"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/06\/IMG_20240616_145357_399.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-106574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/06\/IMG_20240616_145357_399.jpg 380w, https:\/\/shiawaves.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2024\/06\/IMG_20240616_145357_399-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to media reports, the case of Che Mat&#8217;s disappearance is linked to his religious activities in spreading the teachings of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, which the government considers &#8220;extremist&#8221;. The reports added that &#8220;the government claims that the spread of Shiism in the country poses a threat to national security.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shia activist Che Mat left his home in the city of Kangar around 11:30 PM on November 24, 2016.
