The UN official attributed this dramatic rise in the number of people forced to leave their homes to the nations’ failures to address the root causes and combatants’ disregard for international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a critical speech, Filippo Grandi condemned the UN Security Council for not taking action to resolve conflicts in areas such as Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Congo, Myanmar, and others, despite its responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grandi point out that warring parties have increasingly disregarded international humanitarian law, leading to more civilian casualties, the use of sexual violence as a weapon, attacks on hospitals, schools, and other civilian infrastructure, and the targeting of humanitarian workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
