The political situation in Gaza has entered a new stage after tensions between Europe and Israel grew following the announcement of Ireland, Spain and Norway to formally recognize a Palestinian state within a few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This comes as most of the world already recognizes Palestinian statehood, with more than 140 out of 193 member states of the United Nations having made their recognition official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some political experts suggest the growing support for the cause of Palestine owes its momentum to the recent wave of pro-Palestine protests over the course of the past few weeks that swept several acclaimed universities across North America, Europe and even Australia, where Pro-Palestine students claimed \u2018major win\u2019 as University of Melbourne agreed to meet some demands just recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pro-Palestine campus protests have been persistent in the US since April 17, with encampments launched in solidarity with Gaza and demands for respective schools to divest from Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Demonstrations and sit-ins are also taking place on campuses across Europe, including in the Netherlands and Switzerland, as part of a larger protest against Israel\u2019s attacks on Gaza, which have killed more than 35,600 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 79,000 others, as well as destroying infrastructure and causing shortages of necessities in the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian health authorities. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
