The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated in a recent report that extensive rainfall in Afghanistan on March 29-30 resulted in significant destruction to more than 540 homes and essential infrastructure in seven provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the OCHA report, the rains also devastated more than 1,500 acres of agricultural land and compromised vital infrastructure, including six bridges and 450 kilometers of road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provinces of Faryab in the Northern region, Nangarhar in the Eastern region, and Daikundi in the Central Highlands were identified as the most severely affected areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report noted, \u201cThis marks the third instance of flooding in the Northern region in less than a month, resulting in seven deaths and impacting 384 families due to heavy rains on March 21 and March 26-27.\u201d Despite the extensive damage, there have been no reports of displacement as of March 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
OCHA is coordinating with its humanitarian partners and the Taliban, including the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), to provide assistance to affected families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report detailed damage in the Northern region, where nearly 400 homes in Faryab province suffered significant damage, including in the districts of Dawlat Abad, Bilcheragh, Gurziwan, Khwajasbzposh, and Pashtunkot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also highlighted the logistical challenges faced in reaching some affected districts, notably the collapsed bridge connecting Bilcheragh and Garziwan districts. In Almar district, one public school was damaged by the heavy rains, though no casualties were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Central Highlands\u2019 Daikundi province, flash floods destroyed 23 homes and severely damaged 56 in seven districts, killing over 100 livestock, affecting around 100 acres of agricultural land, and destroying five bridges along with 450 kilometers of road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nangarhar province in the Eastern region saw approximately 105 families affected across 11 districts, with one woman reported injured in Lalpoor district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report further mentioned that in the South-Eastern region, Char Chino district of Uruzgan province experienced damage to 60 homes and approximately 600 acres of agricultural fields due to heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, in the Central region\u2019s Parwan province, Pacha Khak village in Kohi Safi district reported 15 destroyed homes and the loss of 50 livestock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
