Following an initiative by Turkey, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has included the General Assembly resolution that considers crimes against sacred books a violation of international law within its resolution on racism, discrimination, and hate crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turkey’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Gulnur Aybet, explained on the “X” platform on Friday that the resolution was included during the 219th meeting of the Executive Board of UNESCO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aybet mentioned that during the 216th meeting of the Executive Board of UNESCO last year, combating Islamophobia was included in the resolution related to racism, discrimination, and hate crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding her speech during the meeting, she said: “I affirmed our support for combating all forms of hate crimes, and emphasized that crimes against Islam have increased significantly in recent years, and UNESCO should act in accordance with UN resolutions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added: “The draft resolution was accepted with the changes we proposed, and we will continue the fight.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
