A new report by the United Nations Security Council shows that the Khorasan branch of the Sunni extremist group, Daesh, has adopted a broad strategy to recruit troops in Afghanistan, indicating significant number of Afghans joining the ranks of the terrorist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The \u201c18th report of the Secretary-General on the threat posed by ISIL (Da\u2019esh) to international peace and security and the range of United Nations efforts in support of Member States in countering the threat\u201d was completed on January 31 and published on Sunday, Februaty 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to this report, the Khorasan branch of Daesh has focused on attracting disaffected members of Taliban and foreign fighters, and has also increased its lobbying efforts on Tajik networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report also stated that the Khorasan branch of ISIS is not only the biggest threat to Afghanistan, but also threatens the security of the region and the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report of the Security Council expresses concerns about Daesh’s large-scale acquisition of weapons in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa. It quotes a number of countries saying that after the re-establishment of Taliban rule in Afghanistan, the remaining weapons in this country are being transferred to certain groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new report of the Security Council comes as the extremist Sunni Daesh group has carried out dozens of deadly attacks against Shiites and other Afghan citizens during the last two and a half years under the rule of Taliban in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
