According to the released statistics, more than 80% of the Christians of Basra, Nasiriyah, Kut and Al-Amara have migrated from the region, giving reasons such as: the weakness of the law, lack of respect for rights and mistreatment as 3rd class citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iraq registered a Christian population of one million and 262 thousand people in the 1987 census, when Christians constituted 4% of the Iraqi population.
