UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said on Sunday that the strikes being carried out by the United States and its allies on Yemen carry the risk of widening the conflict in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked if UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres believes that “the recent situation in the Red Sea is an extension of the situation in the Gaza Strip?”, Dujarric said, “This certainly carries the risk of further escalation and deterioration of the situation in the region.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dujarric explained that the UN Secretary-General is calling on the parties concerned to de-escalate in order to preserve the stability of the Red Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that Guterres is calling on countries that defend ships in the Red Sea to comply with international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
