The Afghan government has released the first batch of the 5,000 terrorist prisoners of the Taliban movement, in preparation for entering into a peace agreement between the movement and the government.

Sidqi Sadiq, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, stressed that Taliban prisoners should make written pledges that they will not return to bear arms.

The Afghan spokesman added that the government will release 100 Taliban elements a day until the release of the 1,500 prisoners is completed. According to Sidqi, the Afghan government will release the remaining 3,500 prisoners in batches of 500 each.
