Tajikistan decided today, Wednesday, to close its mosques as a precaution, for fear of spreading the coronavirus, although it has not recorded any cases so far.

A spokesman for the Governmental Religious Affairs Committee said that the decision was taken officially and it is not a complete ban on entering mosques but only to avoid large numbers during Friday prayers.

He added, “There is no complete ban on entering mosques, but this procedure is put on the table after requests from a number of imams.”

Tajikistan has closed its borders with China and Afghanistan due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus, and is seeking to protect nine million people.
