United Nations: Three million people in Niger need humanitarian aid

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced that about three million people need humanitarian aid in Niger, more than half of them children, due to poverty and multiple simultaneous emergencies.

“The situation is exacerbated by instability in the region, including in neighboring countries, which has led to an influx of thousands of refugees, internally displaced persons and migrants, all of whom need access to basic social services and protection to stay,” the United Nations said.

“There are about 260,000 people in Niger affected by the floods, and there are 380,000 children at risk of severe acute malnutrition, and 600,000 children are at risk of epidemics,” it added.
