Swiss police have launched raids in several parts of the country targeting people suspected of being linked to terrorist extremists, prosecutors said.

The raids took place in the provinces of Zurich, Bern and Schaffhausen, during which police searched 11 houses, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

The campaign targeted 11 individuals, including five minors, who will be prosecuted by a special office, the statement said.

The prosecution said it had launched proceedings against six adults on suspicion of violating Swiss law prohibiting support for or affiliation with al-Qaeda-style terrorist organizations.

One of those arrested was a foreign fighter who had returned to Switzerland and had previously been convicted of violating the country’s anti-terrorism laws.
