500 Iraqi children killed, injured in the first half of 2017

 In the first six months of this year, more than 500 children were killed or wounded in clashes between security forces and the ISIS terrorist group in Iraq, UNICEF announced. 

 

 

In the first six months of this year, more than 500 children were killed or wounded in clashes between security forces and the ISIS terrorist group in Iraq, UNICEF announced.

The Chief of Field Operation at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in Erbil told to the reporters: “UNICEF is working with the Iraqi government to get access to the detention facilities where ISIS may have force children to serve them, we are the supporter of the rights of all children”, referring to the deaths and injuries of 506 children during a military operation between the Iraqi forces and ISIS during the first six months of 2017. 

“The children are the main victims of the war in Mosul, many of them were separated from their families, 4300 children have been returned to their families, and today more than 1,000 children are still under our protection and waiting to be reunited with their families, many of whom have spend two years of their life under the ISIS rein of terror and have seen nothing but war.” He added. 

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abbadi announced on Monday (July 10th) the complete liberation of Mosul after almost nine months of operations.
