Shias in Nigeria issued a statement on 4th of July 2016, expressing grave concern over the ongoing crackdown on Shia and the unknown situation of the persecuted in Nigeria’s prisons.

“We are deeply concerned that the Nigerian Army that waged a savage attack on Shias under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky in Zaria on December last year, is holding hundreds of our community members in various detention facilities across the nation,” said Ibrahim Mousa, Nigerian citizen.

“We have been hoping, though it seems to be against hope, that the military will gradually release them as time passes, but for seven months now the Nigerian government has refused to even acknowledge their abduction,” added Mousa.

The statement added that the innocent Nigerian detainees still insist and call for their immediate and unconditional release from detention.
