Iraqi officials report the car bombings in Hillah city, Babylon province, have resulted in the death of at least 36 civilians and 90 others wounded.

The Shia-majority city is located about 120 kilometers south of Baghdad.

Medical officials,speaking on condition of anonymity have confirmed numerous causalities.

The attack came a day after the Iraqi security forces reported progress in recapturing some areas in western Anbar Province from the so-called Islamic State militants who control about a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria.
