Pakistan plans ferry service for pilgrims from Karachi, Pakistan to Iran

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi announced that Islamabad is planning to launch a ferry service for the country’s pilgrims wishing to visit holy Shia Islamic shrines.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi announced that Islamabad is planning to launch a ferry service for the country’s pilgrims wishing to visit holy Shia Islamic shrines.

Speaking to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs, he said, large vessels would be used for the ferry service from Karachi to Bandar Abbas via Gwadar.

The service would be launched after the security clearance is obtained, he said.

There is no ferry service between the two countries despite the fact that large number of Pakistanis travel to Iran for religious and commercial purposes, and the people have to use road and air links for the travel which is quite expensive.

The experts believe that after the launch of the ferry service best transport facilities would be available to people of both countries who travel on these routes on a regular basis.
