Four precious copies of the Holy Quran are among a number of items being preserved at the library of al-Sayyida Zaineb Mosque in Cairo, Egypt.

According to vetogate.com, they include a Quran attributed to Imam Ali, peace be upon him, and one known as a Mushaf of Othman.

The one attributed to Imam Ali, peace be upon him, has 504 pages and is in simple Kufic script. It is believed to date back to the first century Hijri (7th century AD). Its last page is in Thuluth script and is said to have been added to it sometime during the Ottoman Empire.

The “Mushaf of Othman” is said to be one of the copies the third caliph ordered to be compiled and sent to different parts of the Muslim world.  

It has 1087 pages written in simple Kufic script. A project to repair and restore the copy was completed by a group of experts in summer 2017 at Egypt’s Dar-ul-Kutub.

al-Sayyida Zainab Mosque, named after lady Zaineb , peace be upon her, the daughter of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, is a historic mosque in Cairo.

It is one of the most important and biggest mosques in the history of Egypt.
