Afghan special security forces freed 101 inmates from a prison held by the Taliban extremist group in southern Afghanistan.

According to the Pajhwok news agency, the prison is located in Helmand Province.

Afghanistan is in a state of political and social turmoil, with government forces fighting the continuing Taliban insurgency, while other extremist groups have also expanded their activities in the country and in neighboring states.
