The Bahraini court sentenced on Thursday, June 16, eight Shiite defendants to 15 years in prison and revoked their Bahraini citizenships, over charges of “establishing and raising donations to fund a terror organization,” a judicial source said.

“Bahrain’s criminal court sentenced eight Shias to 15-year jail terms and stripped the defendants of their citizenship after convicting them of establishing and raising donations to fund the Bahraini opposition,” said AFP.

The Bahraini authorities often raise charges of establishing terrorist groups against pro-democracy protestors. Defendants however, stress they are subjected to torture to make incriminating confessions.
