Nigeria Muslims Reject Boko Haram Caliphate

A leading Nigerian Muslim rights group has rejected Boko Haram’s claims that it has formed an Islamic caliphate in Gwoza town in Borno state, urging Nigerian army to stand up and cleanse the group’s threat.

The leader’s statement defied an earlier declaration made by Boko Haram that a town in the north east of Nigeria seized by the insurgents earlier this month has been placed under the self-claimed “Islamic State” (IS), also known as  the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

A similar claim of joining the Islamic Caliphate was announced in a video last July by Boko Haram’s leader.
