Kuwait is to deport 60 Shia Lebanese on Monday, in the latest crackdown between the Shia community and the Kuwaiti government.

Those to be deported all had permanent residency that have been revoked, Al-Qabas Daily said.

Around 50,000 Lebanese live and work in the oil-rich country, providing remittances that are vital to the domestic economy.

Qatar and Kuwait followed with similar travel advisories, while the United Arab Emirates banned its nationals from travel to Lebanon.

Bahrain said it had deported several Lebanese residents for being Shia Muslims.

Saudi security forces arrested a Shiite preacher, the kingdom’s Al-Watan newspaper reported last week.
