Myanmar’s border guard police destroy mosque in Maungdaw

Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) has destroyed a mosque

Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) has destroyed a mosque located at ‘Kyauk Pandu’ village in southern Maungdaw last Saturday.

Official sources report that the Commander of BGP in ‘Inn Din’ Camp, ordered the local Rohingya Muslims to destroy the mosque in December last year accusing the traditionally built mosque was illegally erected and was unregistered. Thus, the Commander and his file-troops themselves destroyed the mosque on February 13.

“The Mosque has been in existence nearby a market in the village for many years since the time of Burmese (Myanmar) Military Junta. However, the destroying a Place of Worship at the time of the current democratic government indicates a clear of violations of a people’s Freedom to Worship. Hence, they are violating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” said an elderly local man on behalf of his fellow villagers.
