Paulo Coelho has leapt to the defense of Islam and its holy book, the Quran

Internationally-renowned author Paulo Coelho has leapt to the defense of Islam and its holy book, the Quran, on his official Facebook page recently.

Coelho uploaded a photo of the Quran on his social media page along with the caption ‘Exhibition “Books that changed the world”, Malaysian Digest reported.

He replied on a Facebook user who commented on his post by speaking about Quran in a negative way by saying that he as a Christian, and for centuries we tried to impose our religion by the force of the sword – check “crusades” in the dictionary… We murdered women – calling them witches, and we tried to stop science – like the case of Galileu Galilei. So, it is not to blame a religion, but how people manipulate it.”

Coelho is a Brazilian author and lyricist most popularly known for his novel ‘The Alchemist’, which has been translated into 80 languages and sold over 210 million copies worldwide.

He is also the recipient of numerous international awards, amongst them the Crystal Award by the World Economic Forum.
