Imam Redha Holy Shrine hosts millions of pilgrims

Millions of Muslims have flocked to Iran’s northeastern holy city of Mashhad

 

Millions of Muslims have flocked to Iran’s northeastern holy city of Mashhad to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Redha, peace be upon him, the eighth Shia Imam.
Pictures coming out of the holy city show pilgrims mourning in the holy shrine and surrounding streets. Nearly 140-thousand people from all walks of life went to Mashhad on foot to take part in the ceremony.
The pilgrims are from Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries in the region. Mourners in other cities across the country also marked the event in mosques and other religious sites.
